Div 4 League Cup

Weybourne FC v Camberley Cougars

The latest match saw Weybourne travelling to Farnborough in the league cup to take on Camberley Cougers. It was important the boys put on a positive display after tha lacklustre effort last week, and that’s just what they gave the manager. In control from the start Weybourne put on pressure from the off, keeping the ball well, playing neat triangles and passing, moving, and battling well. After a few early half chances Gregor played a great through ball into Luethfords path, who took it in his stride and just as he was about to pull the trigger was bundled from behind, the ref pointed at the spot immediately, Gregor stepped up and cooly slotted into the corner, 0-1. It wasn’t long until Weybourne doubled their lead, Corfield climbing high to head on a high ball, Stoner gave chase and showed composure in rounding the keeper and slotting in, 0-2. Weybourne were strong all over the pitch, the midfield controlling the game with O'Donnell and Corfield playing some sublime football in the middle, with battling performances from Luetchford and Davies on the wings. Camberley were kept fairly quiet until a through ball cut through Weybourne's defence, O'donnell came out to make the block however this fell to a Camberley striker who shot into what seemed to be an open goal, but there was Ridgeon getting back onto the line to make a great goal line clearance. Weybourne saw out the half fairly comfortably, with T. O'Donnell and Stoner going close again.

HT Score 0-2 (Gregor, Stone)

Weybourne Starting the second half just as they had finished the first, putting presssure on Camberley and creating chances. Stoner went through ans looked certain to score, the keeper got down and parried to Gregor who didn’t have time to adjust and put it wild with the goal at his mercy. Camberley had an effort of their own but it was hit straight at O'Donnell who was deputising for Charles in the Weybourne goal. Green came on for Davies on the right as Weybourne continued to dominate and from a Stoner corner, the ever impressive Ridgeon, now known as Salmon Mellberg, rose above the rest to loop a precise header into the corner, a well deserved first goal for the club, 0-3. Camberley just couldn’t break down Weybourne, who controlled it in midfield and when called upon the Weybourne defence was outstanding, with Ridgeon winning nearly everything in the air and Watts sweeping very well in behind. Weybourne soon added another with Stoner bearing down on goal and finishing with a cheeky chip into the far corner to cap a fine performance, 0-4. The Cougers just couldn’t contain the quick passing and movement of Weybourne who looked dangerous every time they had the ball. The last 15 saw Macca come on for Gregor, and T. O'Donnell nearly score a memorable 20yard volley from a Green cross however he saw the ball go agonisingly high. The Ref, who had a fine game, blew his whistle and ended the game, a well deserved victory for Weybourne who put in a sublime attacking and defensive performance, with 100% effort coming from all over the pitch.

FT Score 0-4 (Gregor, Stone 2, Ridgeon)
