Weybourne FC Vs The Borough

A boggy pitch awaited both teams for this encounter at Weybourne Road, conditions were not going to be easy. Weybourne put The Borough under pressure from the opening whistle, and when a long Green throw landed to Stone in the box, the strikers shot was parried by the keeper, Macca reacted quickly and finished well with his first touch of the game, the goal drought was over for the striker, 1-0! The scores were levelled almost instantly when an opposition player let fly from the edge of the box, catching Charles of his line for a fine finish, 1-1. Weybourne put on the pressure again with Macca and Luetchford combining well down the right, & the striker playing a great ball in the Stephens who saw his volley saved well by the keeper. Weybourne were in complete control & it was only a matter of time, Luetchford playing a great ball in for Stephens, who made sure this time and finished well, the birthday boy combination had succeeded, 2-1! Weybourne then made the most of more Borough defensive uncertainties in the box, Stone receiving the ball with the keeper out of position and the in form striker hooked a left footed shot high into the opposite corner, 3-1. Weybourne kept pressing to add to their lead, Stone hitting straight at the keeper when looking odds on to score, however the home side were hit on the break, letting the Borough striker through to finish in the corner, 3-2. The half time whistle blew after a dominant first half display by Weybourne which the scoreline didn’t reflect.

HT 3-2 (Macca, Stephens, Stone)

The first half started with Weybourne playing some flowing football, Corfield threading an inch perfect through ball to Stone, who's shot looked to be heading for the corner but hit the post and went wide for the goal kick. The Green and O'Donnell partnership dominated midfield, with Corfield and Luetchford pressing to support the Weybourne strikers and running the opposition ragged. The pace of Macca was causing problems for the Borough with the striker breaking through and forcing a good save from the Borough keeper from a tight angle. At the other end the opposition were struggling to break through the stern figures of Ridgeon and Peters, on the odd occasion that the defence was breached, Charles was on call to pull off some magnificent saves, one down to his right was particularly impressive. A long Charles goal kick was seized upon by the ever alert Peters, who won the ball well in the middle of the park and playes a defence splitting through ball for Macca to chase, he outpaced the defence and was clean through, he saw the gap and slotted cooly through the keepers legs, 4-2. With Corfield having to come off injured Weybourne were down to 10, but still pressed on for more and were showing the ruthless streak they have been missing in recent weeks, with Leutchford and Stephens both going close, along with a penalty decision on Macca not being awarded, but it was the unstoppable Stoner who capped off a fine team performance, cutting inside from the left and applying a trademark finish into the corner, 5-2.
