Weybourne Vs Farnborough Athletic

Another home game at Weybourne Road with Weybourne attempting to keep a good run of form against Farnborough Athletic, with only one league place dividing the 2.  After a bright Weybourne start a rather static backline allowed FA’s striker to go through on goal on his own. It looked like Ridgeon had bundled him over for a penalty but Peters somehow side-footed past his own keeper for a freak own goal, good finish by the defender, wrong net, 0-1. Weybourne bounced back well with Green and Corfield controlling the midfield, Green winning everything in the air & Corfield offering support to the front line. A ball is played through by Corfield and Gregor hassles the opposition defence into a mistake, picking up the lose ball and hitting into an empty net, 1-1. The home team took control of the game playing some neat football, Stoner working well with the centre midfield duo and some strong play by Luetchford on the wing, along with Munford on the right, cutting inside well and going close from 18yards with his left foot. A brilliant passage of passing and movement down the left sees some great footwork by Stone to play it across the box with Munford finishing at the far post thanks to a deflection of the defender, 2-1. The half finishes with Weybourne in complete control.

HT 2-1 (Gregor, Munford)

More chances followed in the 2nd half as Weybourne stayed in control. The breakthrough came from a long Charles goal kick that was nodded on by Stone, Gregor latched onto it and placed a half volley into the corner leaving the keeper no chance. Weybourne looked to be in control when Melberg rose up high from a corner to head the ball just over, however his momentum followed through resulting in a nasty clash of heads with the defender. The towering centre back had to be withdrawn from the game with a nasty cut to his eye. Peters slotted into CB with Gregor moving back to RB, and Neudegg coming on to partner Stone upfront.  A quick succession of subs see’s Stevens come on at LW for Leutchford, who had a good game in his silly new boots, and Macca come on for Munford, with Neudegg moving onto the right and Macca upfront. With barely a minute played since coming on, Stevens plays through Macca who with his 1st touch of the game lofts it over the keeper only to see the ball dip over the bar. Farnborough started to press and in a crazy 10 minutes managed to get 2 scrappy goals to bring it back to 3-3. Weybourne responded immediately, with Stone showing neat footwork in the box to finish low and add to his tally for the season 4-3. The Weybourne striker then had a chance to extend the lead when one on one in the box, however a moments hesitation led to a defender being able to get back and intercept. Macca then had a couple of chances cutting in off the left but failed to beat the keeper from tight angles. Farnborough turned up the pressure and got lucky with another scrappy goal taking a deflection off Watts. It was now anybody’s game, and with just a few minutes to go Emerson gives away a free kick on the edge of the box, which is taken quickly catching Weybourne off-guard as they arranged the wall & going into the gaping net, 4-5. The Referee brings the game to an end, a massive blow to Weybourne after controlling the majority of the game and looking comfortable at 3-1 up.

FT Score 4-5 (Gregor 2, Munford, Stoner)
