Weybourne FC Vs Castle City
First league game of 2010 was played on a near frozen pitch at Weybourne Lane, the visitors were Castle City who Weybourne narrowly beat in the reverse fixture. In difficult conditions the game had a slow start, with both sides finding it hard to carve opportunities. Mukabaa cut in from the left to provide WOD with a low cross which the winger put wide of the post. A little while later Weybourne had it in the net, a looping header by Stone from a long goal kick lobbed the keeper, however the goal was dissallowed due to a fowl by Mukabaa in the build up. The deadlock was broken about half an hour in, with Gregor collecting the ball from a throw in and storming down the right, firing a fierce strike into the far corner from just inside the box, 1-0. Mukabaa nearly added to this lead with a fine left footed half volley which the City keeper made a brilliant save from, getting down low to the corner of the goal to turn it round the post. City soon began to pile on some pressure and Charles pulled off a good save low at the strikers feet, however a few minutes later a City striker beat the offside trap and with Charles out to narrow the angle fired into the top corner to draw City level right on half time, 1-1.
HT Score 1-1 (Gregor)
The second half began with Weybourne controlling the play from the midfield, with Gregor and Green stamping their mark on the game. Stoner managed to break through opting to go for goal as opposed to squaring it when he had options, but put his shot just wide. The game was end to end with City coming close on a few occasions, Heppel was also lucky not to be carded for a late tackle that left the city winger in a heap on the ground. Davies came on at LB for Lau, Mukabaa was subbed for Gary, and Neudegg came on for WOD on the RW. Weybourne started to pile on the pressure and when the ball fell into the box from a corner Gregor was on the end of it to smash it in low, another good finish from the midfielder who was having a great game, 2-1. City tried to get back into the game but the Weybourne defence stood firm, with Price and Watts holding their own. Weybourne continued to dominate and soon extended their lead, with the ball falling to Stone outside the box, the striker smashed it on the turn into the corner past the stationary keeper, a brilliant strike that gave the keeper no chance, 3-1. With time running out Weybourne kept the ball and slowed things down, but still had time for another lethal attack with Gregor bursting through the middle hurdling a few challenges before slipping through to Neudegg who hit a low, powerful left footed finish inside the near post, another quality goal, 4-1.
FT Score 4-1 (Gregor 2, Stone, Neudegg)
